Afzalur Rashid
Brief Bio
Afzalur Rashid, PhD, CPA is an internationally recognised academic and researcher. In 2025, he was listed amongst the top 2% scientists in Accounting, Business and Management prepared by Stanford University based on Elsevier’s data. He is currently working as a Senior Lecturer [broadly comparable to U.S. Associate Professor in responsibilities] in Accounting in the School of Business at the University of Southern Queensland, Australia.
He received his PhD degree in Accounting from AACSB Accredited Business School of the University of Wollongong, Australia. He is also a CPA and holds the CPA License.
In the last quarter century, he taught at the universities in Australia, Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America. The major areas of his research interest are in Carbon Emission and Disclosure, Corporate Governance, Corporate Social and Environmental Disclosures and Earnings Management. His PhD thesis examined ‘corporate governance practices in a less developed country’. He presented his research ideas at many prestigious international gatherings, such as American Accounting Association Annual Meeting, British Accounting Association Annual Conference, Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ) Conference, Asia Pacific Interdisciplinary Research in Accounting (APIRA) Conference, AIB US Northeast Chapter Conference. He is the author/co-author of 44 research papers published in international peer-reviewed journals including papers in many top ranked journals, such as Asia Pacific Journal of Management, International Review of Economics and Finance, International Review of Finance, International Review of Financial Analysis, Journal of Business Ethics (FT50), Journal of Contemporary Accounting and Economics, Journal of Financial Research and Managerial Auditing Journal. He is the recipient of the School Specific Publication Excellence Award from the University of Southern Queensland in 2015 and 2017. His research on Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility has attracted international attention.
Dr Rashid is an experienced Higher Degree Research (HDR) supervisor and supervised many HDR students (Research Masters, DBA and PhD) as a Principal Supervisor.
Dr Rashid is actively providing services to the academic community and acts as an editor of many journals. He is the editor of Excellence in Research (ERA) ranked journal ‘Australian Academy of Accounting and Finance Review’; he was one of the guest editors of ABDC B ranked journal ‘Australasian Accounting Finance Business Journal’. He was also the ‘Corporate Governance Section Editor’ of the Financial Times top 50 ranked journal ‘Journal of Business Ethics’.
Dr Rashid delivered training and speeches (including keynote speeches) as an invited guest at many international conferences in Australia, Malaysia, and the United States of America.
